Latin America

Wage growth across Latin America remained elevated in 2025 but showed signs of moderation as economic conditions, inflation dynamics and current movements diverged across the region. Mexico, Brazil and Argentina experienced varying degrees of wage growth driven by a combination of trade pressures, monetary policy shifts and domestic economic reforms.

While inflation eased meaningfully in parts of the region, currency fluctuations and policy changes continued to influence labor costs for multinational employers. The following sections examine wage growth developments in these markets, highlighting how sector exposure, inflation trends and currency dynamics are influencing labor cost competitiveness as organizations plan for 2026.

Mexico

Mexican average hourly wages increased by 6.9% in 2025, with nominal hourly earnings rising from $4.23 USD to $4.52 USD*. Wage growth slowed compared to 2024 (7.7%) as economic growth weakened due to US tariffs and internal political challenges. The manufacturing sector was particularly hard hit by tariffs, entering a recession in the third and fourth quarters of 2025. As a result, manufacturing wage growth decelerated significantly, increasing 15.8% in 2025 compared to 24.4% in 2024.

Over the past year, the Mexican peso appreciated modestly but consistently against the US dollar, making hiring in Mexico slightly more expensive for multinational employers. Despite this appreciation, labor costs in Mexico remain substantially lower than in more developed markets.

Brazil

Brazilian average monthly income rose by 4.9% in 2025, increasing from $661 USD to $694 USD*. In February 2026, the minimum monthly wage was raised from $292 USD to $311 USD* representing a 6.6% increase. The Brazilian real appreciated against the US dollar in 2025, contributing to higher labor costs. However, wages in Brazil remain comparatively low relative to other developed countries.

Argentina

Argentinian average monthly wages increased 15% in 2025, with nominal earnings risking from $1,138 USD in January to $1,308 USD* in November. While this represents strong growth, it is a significant slowdown from 2024, when average monthly wages increased by 84%.

Inflation declined sharply in Argentina, falling from an annualized rate of 117% in 2024 to 31% in 2025. During the same period, the Argentinian peso depreciated against the US dollar, reducing labor costs for multinational companies and making Argentina a more cost-competitive hiring market despite ongoing economic volatility.
